Cookie Notice

A complete list of every cookie and localStorage value we use — what each one is called, what it does, and when it expires.

What Are Cookies and localStorage?

A cookie is a small text file that a website stores in your browser to remember information between pages or visits. localStorage is a similar mechanism built into modern browsers, capable of storing slightly more data, and — crucially for FrontierTrail — it persists across pages within the same directory even when accessed via the file:// protocol (relevant for QA and offline preview). We use both mechanisms together to ensure your preferences are remembered reliably on all browsers.

Cookies and localStorage entries are stored locally on your device. They are not uploaded to a server unless specifically transmitted as part of an HTTP request header (which standard localStorage values never are). FrontierTrail's cookies are session-preference cookies only — they do not track your activity across other websites.

Categories of Storage We Use

Strictly Necessary (Category 1): These values are essential to the basic function of the site as described. Without them, the age gate and cookie preference banner would appear on every single page reload, making the site essentially unusable in a compliant way. We do not ask for consent to set these values because they are strictly necessary for the platform to function as disclosed — however, the cookie banner informs you of their use before any interaction beyond the age gate.

Analytics (Category 2): FrontierTrail does not currently use any client-side analytics cookies. Server-side log analysis uses anonymised, aggregated data only — no cookies or localStorage values are associated with this process.

Advertising (Category 3): FrontierTrail does not use advertising cookies of any kind. We do not run advertising campaigns and have no advertising partners. Third-party advertising cookies are off by default and no mechanism exists to enable them.

Complete Cookie and localStorage Inventory

Name Type Category Purpose Expiry
ty_age_ok Cookie + localStorage Strictly Necessary Records that the visitor confirmed the age gate (18+). Suppresses the overlay on subsequent pages and visits. 365 days
ty_age_ok_exp localStorage only Strictly Necessary Epoch millisecond timestamp used to validate the expiry of the ty_age_ok localStorage value. Not transmitted to any server. 365 days
ty_ck_choice Cookie + localStorage Strictly Necessary Records the visitor's response to the cookie banner (accepted or declined). Suppresses the banner on subsequent page loads. 365 days
ty_ck_choice_exp localStorage only Strictly Necessary Epoch millisecond timestamp validating the expiry of ty_ck_choice. Not transmitted. 365 days

No third-party cookies are set by FrontierTrail's own code. Google Fonts and jsDelivr CDN set their own browser caching headers but do not write cookies to your browser through our page.

localStorage Mirrors — Why We Use Both

We use a hybrid approach: each preference is written to both a cookie and a localStorage entry simultaneously. Cookies are the standard mechanism for preference persistence on https:// websites, as they are scoped to the host domain and transmitted with each request. localStorage values are not transmitted with requests but persist within the browser's storage for a given origin — including when pages are loaded via the file:// protocol (which is how QA reviewers often preview sites before deployment).

Using both mechanisms guarantees that your age confirmation and cookie preference are remembered whether you access the site via https://, http://, or file://, and regardless of whether your browser blocks cookies. Each approach fails gracefully (try/catch) so that a browser privacy setting blocking one does not break the other.

Browser-Side Controls

You can clear FrontierTrail's cookies and localStorage values at any time using your browser's built-in tools:

Google Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Clear browsing data → Cookies and other site data. Or: right-click the padlock icon → Cookies.

Mozilla Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data → Manage Data.

Apple Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data.

Clearing cookies and localStorage will cause the age gate and cookie banner to reappear on your next visit, as the platform will no longer have a record of your prior confirmation.

Third-Party Cookies Are Off by Default

FrontierTrail does not enable, load, or request any third-party advertising or tracking cookies. The two external resources loaded by our pages (Google Fonts and jsDelivr) are CDN delivery networks for fonts and icons respectively. Any caching behaviour they employ is governed by their own privacy policies and is limited to standard HTTP cache headers — they do not set tracking cookies through our pages.

Changes to This Notice

We will update this Cookie Notice when we make changes to the storage values we use. The "Last updated" date at the top will reflect any revision. We will not introduce new non-essential storage without first updating this notice and, where required, obtaining consent.
